Queen angelfish Holacanthus ciliaris
Distribution: Species subtropical island , preferring reefs surrounding the islands at sea distribution is limited to the western tropical Atlantic waters , ranging from Bermuda to Brazil and Panama Bahamas. The species is most abundant in the entire Caribbean . Habitat: This fish lives on the reef slopes . It can be found down to the deepest part of the reef where the lack of sunlight prevents coral growth ( approximately 70 m). Description: The queen angelfish is considered by some as one of the most beautiful fish in the ocean . His bright blue and yellow color distinguishes easily to any other kind of angelfish except H. bermudensis . These two species are very similar in coloration, but H. ciliaris has a dark stain ringed with blue dots on his forehead that looks a crown and a completely yellow tail. Both species are known to intersect time time and create hybrid that shares color characteristics of H. ciliaris and H. bermudensis . They are usually solitary or in pairs swim among the sea fans and coral reef . Power : The diet consists mainly of sponges, tunicates, jellyfish, and corals as well as plankton and algae. |
